Enjoy the Benefits of a Great Night’s Sleep At The Gresham

“Great beds for a good night's sleep!”

Did you know that March is National Bed Month? Here at The Gresham Aparthotel we love a great bed and our guests do too so we thought we’d do a round up of some of our favourite bed-related review comments plus our top tips for a great night of quality zzzz’s.

First up, why is good sleep so important? We all know the answers to this - so that we can function, so we can get through days of endless questions, decisions and annoyances without completely losing our %&£@!

Also, because we all know what it feels like after a night of rubbish sleep and none of us want to be in that place! Here are some of the other ways that great sleep can benefit you:

  • People who sleep well generally get sick less often

  • Good sleep can lower your risk of some serious health problems such as diabetes and heart disease

  • Reduce stress and improve your mood (we can all relate to this one)

  • Reduce the risk of accidents

  • Allow you to think more clearly

So there are the incentives for putting changes in place to improve your sleep and here are a few top tips to help you get there:

  • The first one is obvious - make sure you’re in a comfortable bed. In 1988, a groundbreaking study found that by switching an uncomfortable old bed to a new one meant an extra 42 minutes sleep. The Gresham is packed full of comfortable beds so we’ve got you covered for that one! At the bottom of this article you can see what some of our guests have said about our beds.

  • Keep a regular sleep schedule - our bodies love consistency.

  • Get out in natural light as soon as possible in the morning. It’s good for the body clock.

  • Exercise - it promotes the quantity and quality of your sleep. Not too close to bedtime though - try to leave a window of at least 2 hours before getting your head down. The Gresham has a complimentary fitness suite available for all guests to use so be sure to check it out during your stay.

  • Try to avoid caffeine for 8 hours before bedtime.

  • Don’t go to bed hungry or thirsty but try to avoid eating or drinking too much too close to bedtime as this increases the chances of us having to get up through the night.

  • Avoid using electronic devices before bedtime

  • Avoid too much alcohol (Hopefully, once the reduced stress levels kick in you won’t need it anyway)

  • Avoid nicotine before bed.

  • Ensure your room is cool, dark and quiet.

  • Invest in a great pillow (our guests love our pillows as you’ll see from the reviews below)

  • Keep your bedroom tidy! Research has shown that a messy, cluttered bedroom can lead to a poor night’s sleep and increased anxiety.

  • Create a sanctuary. When you enter your bedroom do you have good thoughts. Does it make you want to crawl into bed? The rooms at The Gresham certainly do. They’ve been designed with sleep in mind. The Gresham’s stylish interiors have a high quality, boutique and upmarket feel making it the perfect place to rest your head for a great night’s sleep.

We hope this helps. Enjoy the zzzz’s!
