Light up your winter nights in Leicester at The Gresham

Winter is here and plans for Christmas are well underway.


As the nights draw in and the mercury edges further down, Leicester gets set for a season of delight and wonder.


October saw an invasion of giant inflatable monsters, and more spectacular showpieces are around the corner.


Leicester‘s celebration of Diwali is one of the biggest outside of India with everything from dance, fireworks, food and fashion making it the perfect place to enjoy Diwali.

The Diwali lights switch-on ceremony will be held on Sunday 29 October. Then two weeks later on Sunday 12 November - Diwali Day - celebrations in Leicester will run from 3pm to 9pm. Find out full details on Visit Leicester's website.


The big wheel returns to light up Leicester's skyline, Bonfire night will warm your spirits and there's firework displays aplenty to add a burst of colour to your visit.

Big Wheel - 13th October to 7th January

You can't miss Leicester's Big Wheel, back again for Diwali on Belgrave Road, before taking its place on Jubilee Square for Christmas. At 35 metres high you'll get the best views of the cityscape at night and the perfect opportunity for an Instagram post.


Abbey Park will once again host the city's official fireworks display and bonfire night festivities with a fun-packed programme of events for all ages, including live entertainment, funfair, plenty of hot food stalls and a music stage.


Enlightened at Abbey Park - 9th November to 24th December

Enlightened, the magical outdoor light trail is set to arrive in Leicester’s Abbey Park. From November until Christmas Eve, Enlightened transforms the grounds into a mile long journey of wonder and light for the whole family to enjoy.


Diwali - 12th November

In the North of the city, a short walk from The Gresham, visitors to the largest Diwali celebrations outside of India can enjoy a programme of music and dance on the main stage, accompanied by a funfair followed by a fantastic fireworks display to mark the Festival of Light.


Christmas lights switch on - 22nd November

Celebrate the start of the festive season in the city with the official lights switch-on. An evening with plenty to enjoy for all ages as thousands of lights illuminate the streets and the Clock Tower tree, with the official countdown at 6.30pm.
