What's on in Leicester this April

With the recent sunny weather we’ve been having, it’s safe to say Spring has officially sprung in Leicester! That being said, as the Easter Holidays approach and the daffodils bloom, there are tons of exciting fun events for the whole family going on around the city. We’ve put together just a few of these great events, attractions, and festivals that you can enjoy this April.

Leicester is known for its wealth of arts and culture, and we’re very excited to see the welcoming of Akram Khan’s Jungle Book: Reimagined to the Curve theatre from the 2nd to the 9th of April. Opening in Leicester, the magical retelling will see the incorporation of modern issues into the classic story we all know and love. There are still tickets available so book now to enjoy the state-of-the-art visuals and original score that the show has to offer.

April will also see some exciting festivals coming to Leicester! On the 9th and 10th of April the Cosmopolitan Arts Festival will bring local and national bands, digital artists, dance and more to multiple locations around Leicester city centre. Additionally, the Leicester Vegan Festival 2022 is back on the 10th of April at Athena! You can enjoy over 70 vegan exhibitors all under one roof - ranging from vegan food to hand-crafted jewellery and beauty products.

Looking for some Easter fun for the little ones? Throughout the holidays across the city there are loads of exciting Easter egg hunts and magical springtime trails to get involved with. Head on over to Belgrave Hall on the 13th for a Bunny Hop Easter Fun Day including treats and a garden trail, or celebrate Spring at Guildhall on the 14th of April with some Unicorn themed fun arts and crafts - both only £3 each to get involved.

Something for the parents now, on the 13th and 22nd Jimmy Carr will be performing his rescheduled ‘Terribly Funny’ stand-up show at the stunning De Montfort Hall. Known for pushing the limits, Carr is back with all new material about the ‘terrible things’ that affect our day-to-day lives. With a few tickets left, grab dinner in town and enjoy an evening out and a show!

Sport in Leicester is something that can’t go unmentioned - with the Gallagher Premiership reaching its thrilling climax. On the 16th April we’ll see the Leicester Tigers taking on ASM Clermont Auvergne at the Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium, within a short walking distance from The Gresham!

Leicester’s annual St George’s Festival returns on April 23rd across multiple venues in the Cultural Quarter. The family festival will see cultural events celebrating the national holiday including mediaeval games, dancing around the maypole, storytelling, and a dragon hunt trail! With more details and events still to come, keep an eye out and head on over at the end of the month!

To wrap up the month, on the 24th of April we will see the Leicester Big 10k run 2022! Taking place in the beautiful Abbey Park, the race typically sees over 1000 participants looking to beat their personal bests and enjoy a (hopefully) sunny run! In partnership with the Living Without Abuse (LWA) charity, runners can choose to make donations or run for the charity.

We are also excited to announce the start of a monthly networking event - The Gresham Network will be taking place on the first Thursday of every month starting the 7th of April. The casual business event will provide a space for professionals to build new relationships and strengthen current ones.

The Gresham is proud to support the local area and attractions, and do so through our ongoing See and Stay offer! Whenever you visit a local attraction or attend an event, be sure to keep hold of your ticket and when you present it to reception you can claim 15% off your night’s stay at the hotel when booked directly through our website.
