What's on in Leicester this March?

As the long dark winter comes to an end, and spring starts to bloom in Leicester, there is a bounty of entertainment on offer for those visiting the city. March is jam packed with events and culture here in Leicester, so if you’re paying us a visit, be sure to check out some of these highlights.

From the first Thursday in March, Light Up Leicester returns with nine spectacular installations, part of an international festival of art. Light Up Leicester was one of the last city-wide events to take place in Leicester before the first lockdown hit in March 2020, so it's great to see the festival’s triumphant return. This year’s installations include impressive, large-scale projects from some of the world’s most exciting artists. Follow the trail to find them all - it’s free!

The Leicester Comedy Festival might be over come March, but that doesn’t mean the laughs dry up. On the 4th, head to De Montfort Hall to catch Nish Kumar’s personal brand of fury, satire and razor-sharp wit. Nish has appeared on Live at the Apollo, Taskmaster, QI and The Mash Report, and his brand new show Your Power, Your Control still has a limited number of tickets available. Snap them up while you can…

Do you love music? Do you have a passion for movies? Of course you do! 5th March sees the Leicester Symphony Orchestra doing what it does best at De Montfort Hall, and bringing music from blockbusters including Jurassic Park and The Lord of the Rings to life. If you’ve never seen a real orchestra in full flow, this is the perfect opportunity. Book now.

If books are more your thing, the Leicester Literary Festival also takes place 23rd - 26th March. Hosted by the University of Leicester and taking place across the city, the Festival is a chance to hear from some amazing authors and unearth some undiscovered gems. It’s also totally free to attend, so check out the programme and register now for the events that most demand your attention.

March is also your last chance to catch the Art AI Festival, which is being held across various locations in the city throughout the month. The festival examines the role that artificial intelligence is increasingly playing in filmmaking, music, architecture and art, and asks what the future might hold for this fascinating blend of science and artistry.

Of course, this wouldn’t be Leicester if we didn’t mention the amazing sport that’s on offer this month. Both Leicester City and Leicester Tigers are in action throughout March, with the Foxes taking on Leeds and Brentford at the King Power Stadium, while the Tigers welcome London Irish to Welford Road not once but twice - first in the Gallagher Premiership and again in the Premiership Rugby Cup.

If you prefer your balls to be bounced and your nets up high, Leicester Riders’ British Basketball League season continues apace, with the squad taking on Cheshire Phoenix and Bristol Flyers this month. Leicester City Hockey Club continues to push on all fronts, with the Ladies First Team aiming for a strong finish in Division 1 North and the Men’s First Team looking to maintain their 100% record for the season.

With all this on offer, you’re going to need somewhere to stay! That’s where we come in.
